What bathrooms work involves
A bathroom refit strips the old room out, alters plumbing and electrics as needed, waterproofs and tiles, then fits the new suite. Most of the variation between quotes comes from the fittings and the tiling, and from how much is being moved.

What changes the price
- Room size and tiled area
- Tiling labour and materials scale with the area, and full-height tiling costs considerably more than part-height.
- Moving the layout
- Keeping the soil pipe, bath and basin positions is much cheaper than relocating them.
- Fittings specification
- Suites, brassware, shower valves and screens vary widely and are the biggest budget lever.
- Shower type
- Electric, mixer and pumped showers have different requirements; a wet room needs proper waterproofing.
- Electrics and ventilation
- Lighting, shaver points, heated towel rails and extraction must comply with bathroom zoning.
- Hidden condition
- Rot, failed waterproofing and old pipework found on strip-out add work.

- Where the water supply cannot support the chosen shower, a plumber should advise before fittings are bought.
